Nice early start for us this morning heading out of Port Albert on the back roads around the Kaipara, up plenty of big hills with great views of farmland, as well as some rather bumpy gravel roads through Kaipara Flats and into Puhoi - lunch at Puhoi's Cheese Cafe was awesome, a great stop off the motorway when you're heading north, great food and the best iced chocolates so far of the trip!!
Tough climb back on SH1 into Waiwera - and although it was really hot, for once in our lives we were actually quite happy to be cycling, with the queues of traffic stretching into the distance!
The last stretch of the day was up and down the hills of the Hibiscus Coast, through Orewa and out to the Whangaparoa Penninsula. Gorgeous views but really tough climbs.
We met the ferry at Gulf Harbour, at the end (yes the very very end) of the Whangaparoa Penninsula. Beautiful views heading into the city, and we have settled into the Fat Camel Backpackers for the night.
