After a great nights sleep (finally!) in Taumarunui, we re-stocked our food supply at the local New World, and investigated a plan for the next part of the route - through to Pipiriki. The recommended route included a track that isn't rideable after heavy rain, so we had to make a new route, eventually deciding to head to Raetihi and out to Pipiriki from there, the downside being that we missed the Bridge to Nowhere and the much anticipated Jet Boat Ride!
It was a late set off by our standards, but thankfully the weather could not have been more different from yesterday with sunny blue skies and we headed towards Owhango on a route that proved to be both very pretty and incredibly steep up a massive hill!
After Owhango we followed SH4, through Raurimu and National Park, with beautiful views of the Mountain and some great long straights - very different country to what we've been in recently!
The last part of the day's ride was through the vegetable growing region of Ohakune (although we bypassed the town itself) and on to Raetihi, finally making the local Camping Ground by 8:30pm.
Great facilities and a very affordable place to rest our heads for the night!
