Another gray start this morning with plenty of rain overnight (kudos to our little momentum tent!), we fueled up at the local bakery before setting off through farmland towards Eketahuna for the morning’s ride. Plenty of friendly farmers out on their motorbikes this morning!!
Obligatory photo stop in Eketahuna and a bit later than we expected leaving at 1:30pm with 90kms or so still to go.
But the wind and the terrain was good to us and we covered the distance to Masterton on limited gravel roads, mostly sealed back roads and a delicious stop at a berry farm for ice cream which kept us going!
Great route through the parks in Masterton, and then the final push through the Gladstone valley, which was looking beautiful this afternoon in some sun and blue sky finally, and again some good flat quick riding for us from 4:30 onwards.
We arrived in Martinborough around 7pm and are enjoying a stay in the awesome camping ground there (highly recommended, very friendly!) and treated ourselves to some sweet burgers for dinner, again a big riding day, just over 132kms.
Tomorrow is the moment we’ve been working towards for three weeks and there’s a pretty big hill between us and Wellington!!
Looking forward to a big finish to an epic trip and catching up with friends 😊
